Meet the Basement Brothers: Three Downtown Austin Jazz Bars Built for Unforgettable Events
Each month, our venue spotlight series pulls back the curtain on a standout Austin space for private events. This time we’re heading underground — to a trio of linked downtown jazz bars: Nica on 4th, the Elephant Room, and Parker Jazz Club. Call them the “basement brothers”: three rooms bringing nightly live music, serious cocktails, and old-soul charm to every event they host.

Why We Love It
Live Music, Handcrafted Cocktails, and Rooms Full of Character
These venues offer something a blank ballroom never can: a space that arrives with its own atmosphere already built in. There’s no scrambling to fill the room with energy — the live jazz and the setting handle that before your first guest walks in.
And no two of the three feel alike. The Elephant Room is the well-worn, beloved basement, all warmth and easy character. Parker Jazz Club is the refined listening room, its stage engineered for a fully immersive show. Nica on 4th lands somewhere between them — a dressed-up, Prohibition-era cocktail lounge with a little swagger.
It’s that pairing of real musicianship and loose, glass-in-hand hospitality that sticks with people. Your guests don’t have to know a thing about jazz to walk out saying it was the best night they’ve had in ages.

The Newest Sibling
Nica on 4th: An Elevated Prohibition-Era Lounge
Set just below 4th Street downtown, Nica on 4th plays like a secret jazz hideaway you’re lucky to know about. It opened in 2025 as the family’s youngest member, drawing on the glamour of 1920s Chicago with vintage-leaning cocktails, proper table service, and live music every night it’s open.
The name honors Baroness Pannonica de Koenigswarter — jazz history’s famous “Baroness” — and the space fits roughly 40 for a semi-private booking or up to 100 for a full buyout. There’s in-house food, too, from charcuterie and snacks to pizza and desserts, so guests can graze all night without leaving the music. Better yet, an interior doorway ties Nica directly to Parker next door, so the two can be reserved together for a combined event holding as many as 200 guests when you need the extra elbow room.

The Austin Institution
The Elephant Room: A True Austin Jazz Landmark
Down in the basement of Congress Avenue’s historic Swift Building, the Elephant Room has anchored Austin’s jazz scene since 1991. This is the classic underground bar, and proudly so — walls layered in decades of character, a loose and welcoming mood, and a room that always puts the band and the good times up front.
Live music runs nightly here, and the history is the kind you can feel the second you walk in. For an event, that lived-in, unmistakably Austin atmosphere becomes the whole draw — a backdrop guests keep bringing up long after the final number fades out.

The Listening Room
Parker Jazz Club: A World-Class Stage in the Warehouse District
The ride down Parker’s elevator drops you straight into another era, where live jazz pours off a center stage built with equal care for the players and the people listening. Sitting in the thick of downtown’s Warehouse District, Parker is a polished, intimate listening room — think world-class sound, candlelight, and every seat pointed at the music.
This is the trio’s go-to for a more elevated affair, whether that’s a private concert, a memorable engagement party, a big anniversary, or a corporate evening. With house sound and lighting, a full livestream rig, in-house food — charcuterie, snacks, pizza, and desserts — and purpose-built event packages, Parker can make any celebration feel like a sold-out headline set.
Perfect For
Events That Feel Immersive, Elevated, and Truly Memorable
Corporate Events & Client Hosting
Treat clients or your team to a private concert or full buyout they won’t forget. Parker’s livestream setup and on-site digital signage make it a smart pick for company milestones and hybrid events with remote guests.
Engagement Parties & Milestone Celebrations
It’s hard to beat candlelight and a live band for romance. These rooms shine for engagements, anniversaries, landmark birthdays, and any toast worth remembering.
Private Concerts & Cocktail Receptions
When live music is already the main event, throwing a private concert or a polished cocktail reception is the easy part — the talent’s on stage and the mood takes care of itself.
Holiday Parties & Social Gatherings
Whether it’s the office holiday party or a night out with your favorite group, these atmosphere-rich rooms turn a routine get-together into something people actually look forward to.

Cocktails & Atmosphere
Handcrafted Drinks and a Scene Heightened by Great Jazz
The drinks get real attention at all three rooms, each in its own register. Nica runs on Prohibition-era and vintage recipes served table-side; Parker sets its shows against an upscale, full-service bar; and the Elephant Room keeps it timeless with well-made classics and a solid local beer lineup.
On the food side, both Parker and Nica keep an in-house kitchen going — charcuterie, snacks, pizza, and desserts that make it easy to feed a crowd without an outside caterer. The Elephant Room keeps its focus purely on the drinks and the music, so it’s the spot to lean into cocktails and the show.
The team sums up their approach in a single breath: build a great cocktail, deliver premium service, and let the jazz raise the whole room. You can taste that intention wherever you land of the three.
What you end up with is an evening where drink, music, and setting all pull in the same direction — leaving you free to be with your guests instead of sweating the logistics.
A Built-In Advantage
Combine Spaces for Larger Events
Here’s the part planners love: since Nica on 4th and Parker Jazz Club share an interior doorway, you can book them as a pair for a single event of up to 200 guests. That’s two separate rooms, two different moods, and one evening that flows effortlessly between them.

Why the Basement Brothers Work So Well for Private Events
Across the three rooms, your options stretch a long way — from a snug 20-person semi-private booking all the way to a 200-guest buyout spanning two spaces. Every room shows up with entertainment already handled, professional-grade sound, and a crew that knows exactly how a live-music night should run.
Packages are shaped around your event, with room, beverage, and programming choices you can tune to the occasion — and at Parker and Nica, in-house food like charcuterie, pizza, and desserts to round out the night. Clustered as they are in the center of downtown, all three are easy for guests to get to and sit steps from great restaurants and hotels.
If you want a celebration that feels elevated, full of atmosphere, and unmistakably Austin, the basement brothers are a welcome break from the usual event-space playbook.
