Meet the Venues: Spotlight Series

Meet Clara’s: South Austin’s Rustic Day Dive Built for Laid-Back Events

Each month, our venue spotlight series pulls back the curtain on a standout Austin space for private events. This time we’re heading to far South Austin — to Clara’s Day Dive, the newest name in The Venue Collective lineup. You might remember it as South Austin Beer Garden, but this sprawling, rustic-themed bar has recently rebranded to Clara’s.

Some bars are built for a quick drink. Clara’s is built for sticking around. Grab a cold one, claim a picnic table under the covered backyard, and before you know it the afternoon has drifted into evening, somebody’s on a cornhole hot streak, and the skee-ball machines are calling your name.
If the place feels familiar, it should. Clara’s spent years as South Austin Beer Garden, till they gave it a fresh name and an easy, come-as-you-are attitude to match. They kept what folks loved: plenty of room to spread out, a big draft list, a 3,000-square-foot covered backyard, and multiple covered decks.
That relaxed energy is exactly what makes it a great spot for a get-together. Think company happy hours, team outings, birthday hangs, game-day watch parties, rehearsal dinners, or any celebration where the dress code is “whatever’s comfortable” and nobody’s in a rush to leave.

Why We Love It

Arcade Games, Live Music, and an Open-Air Bar Made for Day Drinking

Clara’s doesn’t need much help getting a party going. The fun is already built in, so you can skip the decorating stress and just show up.

You’ll find an arcade corner lined with skee-ball machines, perfect for a little friendly competition between rounds. Out back, the covered patio is packed with picnic tables, big-screen TVs for game day, and cornhole set up right under the Shiner mural. There’s a live music stage ready for a band or DJ, plus an open-air bar trimmed in rustic whiskey barrels, so nobody has to wander far for a refill. The menu sticks to what works: classic cocktails done right and a solid lineup of beers for every kind of drinker, with food trucks and morning coffee on hand too.

Put it all together and you get the kind of event people actually remember. No stiff schedule, no stuffy room, just good drinks, good music, and a reason to stay out a little later than planned. As Clara’s likes to put it: dive in for a day drink.

The Backyard Hang

Clara’s Covered Backyard

This is where Clara’s really stretches out. The 3,000-square-foot covered backyard is a big, breezy spread of picnic tables under a tin roof, so the shade’s built in and the party keeps going rain or shine. A raised wooden deck sits under the “This is Shiner” mural, giving groups their own perch to post up, while a giant outdoor screen makes it the spot to catch the big game.

Between the cornhole, the multiple covered decks, and all that wide-open space, there’s room for everyone to do their own thing without ever feeling far from the fun.

For events, the backyard is a natural fit for big crowds. Think company picnics, game-day watch parties, birthday blowouts, and casual celebrations where guests can grab a seat, wander between the deck and the bar, and settle in for the long haul.

The Morning Pick-Me-Up

Puente Coffee Co.: A Sunny Coffee Stop Right On-Site

Before the day drinks start flowing, there’s coffee. Puente Coffee Co. sets up shop in a bright blue and yellow shipping container right on the Clara’s property, complete with walk-up order and pickup windows and a row of bar stools for anyone who wants to sip and linger in the sun.

The menu covers all the classics, from espresso, cortados, and lattes to drip and cold brew, plus a lineup of coffee alternatives like matcha lattes, chai, London fogs, and a rotating tea selection. House-made syrups in flavors like vanilla, lavender, brown sugar, and honey add a little something extra, and there’s always a rotating seasonal menu worth asking about.

For events, Puente is a sweet bonus. It’s a natural fit for daytime gatherings like team kickoffs, morning meetups, or a laid-back brunch-style celebration, and it gives non-drinkers (or the early birds) something just as good to hold onto while the party warms up.
